Hafesa obtains the MITECO “Calculo” seal, strengthening its commitment to sustainability
At Hafesa we’ve been awarded the “Calculo” seal by the Spanish Ministry for
the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO). This
official certification confirms that the company has rigorously measured and
registered its carbon footprint for the year 2023, reinforcing its commitment to
environmental transparency and sustainable business practices.
The seal covers both direct and indirect emissions generated across all Hafesa
group companies, including the full scope of storage, distribution and
hydrocarbon marketing activities carried out at the group’s eleven operational
sites in 2023.
Official recognition backed by regulation
Obtaining the “Calculo” seal is not only a milestone in Hafesa’s environmental
strategy, but also the result of a highly technical and regulated process. The
company followed the criteria set out in Royal Decree 214/2025, which governs
how organisations in Spain must calculate, communicate and register their
carbon footprint.
Hafesa submitted its technical documentation in January 2025. Following a
detailed review by the Spanish Office for Climate Change, the request was
approved and officially registered on 10 July. The certification is signed by the
Director General of the Office, adding institutional weight to the recognition.
A roadmap for continued progress
Hafesa sees this certification not as a final destination, but as a first step in a
long-term sustainability journey. As Diego Guardamino, the company’s CEO,
explains:
“This official seal publicly endorses Hafesa’s strategic commitment to
environmental transparency and helps us focus our efforts on reducing our
carbon footprint, contributing to global efforts to combat climate change.”
The company has already set out a clear and ambitious roadmap to progress
towards the next levels of MITECO recognition: the “Reduzco” and “Compenso”
seals, which are awarded to organisations that demonstrate tangible reductions
in emissions and take action to offset their environmental impact.
Transparency that builds trust
This achievement reflects Hafesa’s broader commitment to open and verifiable
communication with customers, suppliers, public bodies and society as a whole.
In a context where environmental impact plays a critical role in business
decisions, being recognised by MITECO strengthens Hafesa’s position as a
responsible and forward-thinking company — one that is fully aligned with the
challenges of the energy transition, even within the hydrocarbon sector.
